MILL Astrié type Price in 2023: what budget for my project?

Do you want to produce your own flour on your farm or on your premises and thus become completely autonomous ? In order to achieve this, you must equip yourself with a professional flour mill which answers a question of yield but also of an ethical commitment on the type of flour that you will "ultimately" obtain!

If you only have two minutes to devote to reading this article, we can say that a first price for a new Moulin Astrié is around €10,500 excluding tax. Second-hand Astrié mills are few in number and much more expensive than a new mill.

If you have more time to understand how to calculate your budget, here are the details of our advice for your forecast.

What is the price of an Astrié mill ? What factors should come into play to make your choice clairvoyantly ? What justifies such price differences between different manufacturers ?

Step 1: Define your project in detail

Are you perhaps a baker, farmer or cereal farmer, do you work in the restaurant business or want to set up a community group? To successfully define a budget, it is essential to talk about your needs first.

Question 1: How many kilos of flour do you need to produce per day, per week, per month?

It is essential to put together a very simple forecast table. In the first column you need to know how many kilos of flour you will need and how often or how often. Do you need a lot of flour once a month? do you need a regular amount every week? do you need fresh flour every day for your business?

Note that the flour on stone millstones and particularly on the Astrié mill is a flour that is alive, so it would be ideal to consume it within 6 months.

So answer this question:

  1. How many kilos of flour do I need, do we need?

  2. at what recurrence do I need it?

These answers will have an impact on the size of grinder that will be best suited to your needs. Here are the first elements of answers:

  • If your needs are around 6 tonnes of flour per month, i.e. 1.5 tonnes of flour per week, or 300 kilos over 24 hours, then you should opt for an Astréïa mill whose the size of the wheels is 50 cm.

  • If your needs are around 12 tonnes of flour per month, i.e. 3 tonnes of flour per week, or 600 kilos per 24 hours and you are switching to milling rights, then opt for the Astréia mill whose millstones are 100 cm.

We talk about "size or dimension of the mill" but in reality, it is the size, the dimension of the millstones of the mill".

The size of the millstone will evolve according to your flour needs. For a 50cm Astrié mill, the price is around €10,500 excluding VAT.

Its 50 cm diameter millstone will allow you to produce 15 kilos of flour per hour, or more than 300 kilos per 24 hours and 1.5 tonnes per week. strong>

If you want to double this output, turn to a larger millstone, 1m, which will give you the possibility of producing 30 kilos of flour per hour. The price will be around €16,600 excluding tax.

Question 2: What nutritional qualities do you want for your flour ?

Be careful, because on the market for stone millstones, you will have to distinguish between traditional stone millstones and "Astrié" stone millstones. There are also other mills such as Austrian wooden mills. Each grinder has advantages or disadvantages. The main thing is that you can consciously choose your type of grinder depending on what you want to do. If you just want flour, or if you want non-oxidized flour, local flour whose grain has never been oxidized, your choice will be different!

Let's make a parenthesis here:

The difference between the grinders is not clear to you? You would like to tell the difference between an Astrié mill and a traditional stone millstone, we wrote an article about it to compare them.

Here you are! So let's continue!

If you just want flour, you could say that any mill that meets sanitary and food standards will do. The question will now arise if you are looking for a professional grinder allowing you to:

  1. a flour that exactly reflects the grain you have

  2. so-called local flour

  3. a flour that retains all the nutritional benefits of the grain

  4. a flour that retains all the germ of the grain

  5. unoxidized, unheated flour

  6. a flour with a unique taste for your processed products (pasta, bread, biscuits...)

  7. different types of flour (T80, T110, T130....) with a single mill

In this case, you will have to turn to a Moulin Astrié-type mill, as we manufacture it, because it is the only one capable of meeting all of these criteria today.

Question 3: How to recognize an Astrié-type mill from another mill with stone wheels?

We talked about it a few lines above, if you need to compare the mills, we invite you to read the article on this subject: "Comparison of stone millstone mills: can you tell the difference between an Astrié and a traditional stone millstone?

Often, a detail can change everything on the flour quality proposed : so in summary:

  • the stone of an Astrié mill is necessarily made of granite

  • the stone of an Astrié mill is not "self-sharpening

  • there is NO ironing on an Astrié-type mill: you never need to intervene in the grinding process

  • the extraction rate is 80% in a single pass, the remaining 20% is the "bran", the husk of the wheat which is put aside by an independent output on your mill

  • each sieve makes it possible to obtain a different type of flour (T110, T130, T80...): you change the sieve to change the type of flour. The sieve change is done in a few seconds

As a guarantee of quality, these conditions are essential for investing in an Astrié mill and not in a traditional stone mill (which has its advantages of course, but which therefore does not meet the same goals).

Question 4: Will you need to make different flours?

Depending on your project and the grind you want to obtain, you may need to arm yourself with different sieves to make different flours: T80 , T110, T130, T65 for example! When you buy your Astréia mill, you have a sieve included to make the equivalent T80 flour that will be housed in the bolter. No need to add other sieves if this flour suits you.

If you also want to produce semi-complete or complete flour, you will need a 470 micron sieve, which allows you to make equivalent T110 flour, or a 600 micron sieve, which allows you to make an equivalent T130 flour for example. You can also make T150 or 165 flour, the idea is that you can make the flour of your choice with a single mill.

If you want to market other types of flour, you can choose different sieves in supplements. Count about €400 excl. tax per sieve for a 50cm mill.

Question 4: Producing gluten-free flour ?

If you want to produce gluten-free flour, you will need an additional blunt mill : one will be used to produce your traditional flour< /strong>, and the other, your gluten-free flour. Health obligations are important, having two bolters is essential to respect them.

Question 5: Show your customers that you make your own flour?

If you want customers to see your mill working in your store, during your open houses, visits to your premises, visits to the farm (...), you can opt for translucent walls on your mill Astreia.

  • The translucent arch walls let you show how the wheels spin

  • The translucent walls of the bolter allow you to show your visitors how grain turns into flour, by gently unrolling it !

If you combine the two options, your customers and visitors will see the whole path of the seed in the mill and will be able to understand how the flour is obtained. A real guarantee of differentiation!

In this way, they see the flour fall into the box and carry out its complete circuit (seed stored in the hopper, then passing between the millstones and finally coming out as flour.)

Need advice during your purchase ?

Often, to successfully find the good Astrié mill that meets your needs, you need to be surrounded and advised.

Depending on the cereals you wish to process (rye, spelled, chestnut, wheat, buckwheat, soft wheat, durum wheat, corn flour…) setting the gap micrometer between the two wheels may vary.

Also, depending on the yield you need, extraction and bagging options can be useful. It will also be interesting to draw up a layout plan, so that your project fits perfectly with your premises. When you have placed your order, follow a training to understand how to handle the Astrié mill can also help you.

In short, to know exactly how to set up your project and be supported from A to Z, turn to a manufacturer who places advice at the heart of the process. Service matters just as much as manufacturing !

In addition, to answer any questions you have, choose a Astiré mill manufacturer which allows you to visit the workshop, face-to-face or remotely, in order to fully immerse yourself in the universe and understand all the specificities of this type of mill. Since this is a significant investment, you need to know exactly where you are going !

Depending on your needs (flour from organic farming, gluten-free flour, production of wholemeal bread, level of yield, etc.), price of an Astrié mill can quickly change. For a model that already offers an interesting yield, count around €10,500 : then, depending on your projects, let yourself be guided to find out if you need additional sieves or sieves_11100000 -0000-0000-0000-000000000111_!
